For those of you who don't know, Nauvoo is the city where a large majority of the early members of our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) lived for an extended period of time. There was a temple erected there and it was considered a home and safe haven for our people. Unfortunately, mobs in Illinois and Missouri drove the members of our church out of Nauvoo in 1846, which led to their travel west and settlement in Salt Lake City, Utah. Both Jeff and I have ancestors that lived in Nauvoo, so it is always fun for us to go visit and see a bit of what it might have been like to live there in the 1800s. It is a special place to us!
We took this really awesome bridge across the Mississippi river on the way into Nauvoo. These pictures don't really do it justice. It was so cool!
Us in front of the temple. Fun Fact! The original temple built by the early saints was actually burned down after they were driven out of Nauvoo. It was rebuilt a few years ago and the new looks exactly like the original.
Morgan by a horse statue (of course)
Inside the blacksmith's shop
In front of some original Browning guns. Jeff loved them!
Spinning twine to make a rope!
View of the temple from down in the "old" city.
Morgan has been OBSESSED with "driving" the car lately. He somehow found an opportunity to drive the car in Nauvoo!
Going for a ride in a golf cart!
"The Nauvoo Pageant"--a performance that depicts some of the early saints' experiences.
We had a great time in Nauvoo! I am hoping we can take another trip sometime in the Fall or Spring seasons when it's not to hot :-)
