Surprise Doctors Visit

Last Friday we had a "surprise" visit to my doctor. Long story short, I have been doing too much and was having some of the not so fun symptoms of that. My doctor had me come in for an ultrasound to make sure that everything was okay with the baby. Thankfully everything looked alright, I just have a small hematoma. Basically, I have a small tear in my placenta. The hematoma is a collection of blood, or a blood clot, that is in-between the placenta and the uterus. There are many reasons why this could happen, but the most likely is that I lifted something too heavy. I got a firm talking-to by my doctor about slowing down and was told that I can't lift anything heavy, do any vigorous exercise, and am to just take it easy. Most of the time hematomas heal on their own, so we're hoping that will be the case! Although it wasn't fun to have to go in for an emergency appointment, it was WAY fun to get to see the baby! We got some awesome ultrasound pictures that I am sooo excited to share!

This one is Jeff's favorite. It's kinda hard to see but the baby is crossing his/her legs. It really looks like he/she is relaxing against the bottom of my uterus and putting up his/her feet! You can also see the hand up by the baby's face. So cute!

This one is cool because you can see the hand and all of the bones in the hand and arm. You also get a nice side profile of the face.

Here is a frontal view. The dark spot on the chest is the baby's heart! You can also see the top of head/face, and one of the baby's arms. It looks like he/she is waving!

It was still too early for the ultrasound tech to give us a definitive answer on the sex of the baby. It will be impossible to know for sure for a few more weeks :-(

I will be going in for a level 2 ultrasound in 2 weeks so they can check the hematoma. My doctor assured me that it should heal rather quickly and that I don't need to worry about it. Although it's hard not to worry, we know that everything will be okay. It will be fun to get to have a level 2 ultrasound--it will give us a much clearer view of the baby! Yay! We will also, most likely, get a definitive answer on the sex of the baby. So excited! I am dying to start getting everything for the nursery. Once we know the sex, that can all begin!

I am going to spend the next 2 weeks getting a lot of R&R and hopefully the hematoma will be long gone by the next ultrasound. Thanks for all of your support! We love all of you!

Time for the Presidential Debate! :-)

  1. I had something similar with my first. All was well and I was able to keep working at my grocery store. :) Helping people out with their carts and all.
Those little baby pictures are ADORABLE. I just love those ultrasound peeks. Congratulations, again. :)

  2. Baby is so cute! Isn't it amazing the miracle that grows and develops within. You take it easy because it is so easy to overdue it. Let Jeff pamper you :)
