Life with Two

Our life since Henley's arrival has been a complete whirlwind of adventures, emergencies, and changes.  It is still pretty unreal to me that we have two kids.  I would say overall the transition to two has gone better than I was expecting.  Henley is the BEST baby ever.  Seriously.  She has been so great throughout these last few months of craziness.  She is my calm in the storm and I am so grateful for her sweet demeanor.

Probably the biggest thing that has happened since Henley's birth is Jeff giving his arm a good hard knock.

About a month ago, he spiral fractured his right humerus pitching in one of his baseball games.  The x-rays really speak for themselves.  He has been pretty laid up since the accident and has a long road to full recovery.  His ortho doctor says it will take TWELVE weeks for his bone to be fully healed.  We are grateful he didn't need surgery, but man alive that is a long recovery time.

He has spent the last month learning how to do everything one handed.  I have also spent the last month learning how to [basically] be a single mom to two kids.  Jeff helps where he can but it is hard for him to do a lot with the kids with only one good arm.  It has been hard but we are getting through it one day at a time.

Before Jeff's accident, we went on a family vacation with my clan to the upper peninsula of Michigan and stayed in a cabin for a week.

We hiked up to see some cool waterfalls

Lake Superior

Maddie and Abby.  It was SO hot and muggy by the lake.  Can you tell?

Jeff smoked us some pulled pork and ribs one night

Some teeter totters that we found at a park in Ironwood.  These provided us with lots of laughs.

Look how cute my grandma is!

We took the chairlift up to the Copper Peak ski jump (a retired ski jump).

The ski jump

At the top of the ski jump.  It was pretty scary up there.  Morgan and Jeff loved it.  The rest of us were kinda really freaked out.  Can't believe I took my 5-week-old baby up to the top of that thing.  Yikes!

The stairs to the top all looked like this.  It was intense.

Fearless 3-year-old

We thought the treetops looked like broccoli heads from the top of the jump.

We were at the very top of that thing.

Those of us who made it to the top were rewarded with a Copper Peak bumper sticker!

Everyone loved the chance to hold Henley a ton throughout the trip, and she obviously loved it as well.

At the end of August we took an impromptu trip to Utah.  Jeff's uncle passed away, so Jeff's parents flew us out there to attend the funeral and be together as a family.  The kids and I stayed for a week afterwards to spend some time with my extended family in Utah and also give Jeff and his arm some time to recuperate without the stress of us being around.

Henley was a complete angel on the plane

Jeff's #1 restaurant request--Apollo Burger!

At the dinosaur museum!  One of Morgan's favorite parts of our trip.

We met up with one of my good friends from high school, Mandy, and her kids.  Morgan and her little guy Zachary had so much fun together!  It is surreal to Mandy and I that we are both moms to two kids!

The night before we left for Utah, we had a very exciting thing happen.  We got a new sectional sofa!  It was a much needed change because our old couches were falling apart.  You can kind of see them in their sad state behind our new couch in this picture.

We also had a little dog emergency!  Knox had an anal gland abscess (yuck) and had to have surgery to repair it.  He was miserable in his cone of shame, and made all of us pretty miserable too.

This was him on the ride home.  He was so out of it.  It was really sad but also really funny.

Another big event we've had is Morgan started school!! He is doing K3 and goes two days a week.  He was so nervous/excited on his first day.  It was super cute!

Somehow during all of this craziness, Henley has grown a ton.  It makes me really sad!!  Time goes by so fast, especially when they are little.

Little miss sitting up all on her own!

Well, I think that's about it.  Long story short, life with two kids has been crazy but not really because of the two kids (make sense?).  Through all of the ups and downs we are so grateful for all of our many blessings.  We have so much to be grateful for and we do our best to not forget that even when life gets hard :-)
